It’s All About The House

Ok, so many of you know that my FIL died in January 2009.

Steve being his only child, the house was left to him. It’s the house where he grew up.

Our plan at that time was to sell it. That all changed the day after Denis died. The house felt different. It felt welcoming and we fell in love.

Steve has been planning and dreaming and planning ever since. It looks like those plans are about to come to fruition and after 24 years, we will at last move out of our flat. If things go well, this may even be by the end of the year.

The house has not changed since it was built in 1937. We have shown it to several friends and they all love it. They love the styling, the kitchen, everything and are quite sure they could live in it just as it is now. Well, not us. We want a modern styled house but with some original features. The kitchen is vile. It’s not livable at all. The bathroom hasn’t been used for nearly 8 years now and is in a terrible state. I don’t want to use my FIL’s bath and nor does Steve. He didn’t like it when he was young so would hate it now.

So, plans…they are huge and we’re hoping that it all works out. I will get a craft room. There will be a conservatory/garden room, utility room and downstairs loo, all mod cons with a range cooker for Steve. And guest rooms, at last, space for our friends to stay!

Cross your fingers for us please. We may have a new home that we love very soon.

    This is such exciting news!

I hope it all comes together for you with ease and by the end of the year.

    So cool!

    • Thanks, Kerry. There’s been no “ease” so far but here’s hoping. It’s been a tough old slog to get this far but our builder is a great guy so fingers crossed. Once it actually gets fully into his hands and out of the “wankitects” (architect), I’ll feel a whole lot better about it.

    • I have lots of before pictures as it’s been Steve’s family home since he was a child. But now, all the carpets are up, it’s almost back to bare walls and nothing else. Those I will take photos of as a starting point and blog them.

  5. Yippee…the news today is that the build starts next week!

    Hello, Lovely!

Thanks for following my (rare) blogs 🙂 How’s that building coming along? I hope for you that if it was back to bare walls in April that it’s mostly done now? So happy for you to have your own place now!

    • Erm, well, we’ve always had our own place. It’s just been an apartment instead of a house.
We are still there. The build stalled due to planning and architect failures and has been on hold. We’re hoping to start again next month.
